Choice Board Week 2

Week 2 Dyslexia Support.pdf

A Letter to Parents

Greetings Parents,

We are looking forward to working with your student to provide them with support and resources as part of their "virtual" Dyslexia services. We certainly realize that without our face-to-face intervention, the implementation of our Dyslexia program in full is not possible. However, we want to continue to support your child's learning and ensure that they have opportunities to practice critical skills in their specific areas of need.

To address these needs, your child's Dyslexia teacher will be sending you and your child information and activities that will allow them to review and maintain previously taught skills. If your child needs a reminder for a rule or skill just to jog their memory, the link below the activity will help with this. If at any time your child is showing signs of frustration, please have them pick a new activity and simply move on. We do not want this Dyslexia practice/review to be stressful for you as the parent or for your child, so please schedule these activities as you see it fits within the schedule of your day/week and so that it does not overwhelm your child in combination with their regular classroom assignment. If your student can choose 2-3 activities per week from the Choice Board and spend some time on Learning Ally as your schedule allows, this will be sufficient practice. Of course you can always choose more activities and spend as much time on Learning Ally as you want. We just want you to know that these activity choices and resources are flexible and are meant to supplement and support your child's classroom learning. Please know that we will also be including additional resources on our teacher and District websites for you to refer to as needed.

As far as the Dyslexia Choice Board, your child will receive a new choice board every week with activities to choose from. As your child completes their chosen activities, those can be emailed to your child's Dyslexia teacher, or you can keep a folder with the activities in them to be turned in at a later time.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Dyslexia teacher if you have questions or concerns or simply need support for your student in any area. We are here to support you and your learner through this new virtual experience. We will also be working closely with your child's classroom teacher(s) to ensure that assignments are being tailored to fit your Dyslexic student's needs, accommodations are being implemented, and resources are being shared as needed.
